Abstract

Tiga satuan batuan gunungapi tersingkap di Desa Wukirharjo, Kecamatan Prambanan, Sleman Youakarta, yakni (1) Perselingan lava dan breksi piroklastika, (2) Breksi epiklastika dan (3) Tefra batuapung. Satuan batuan pertama berkomposisi andesit dan di dalam breksi piroklastika banyak mengandung bom gunungapi, diameter rata-rata terbesar 78 cm dengan sumbu terpanjang butir mengarah U3CT. Bongkah andesit segar mencapai ukuran 2,5 m - 8,0 m, sedangkan bongkah batuan terubah 1,3 - 1, 6 m. Perselingan aliran lava dengan breksipiroklastika itu dipandangsebagai bagian dari fasies proksimal suatu kerucut gunungapi komposit. Berdasarkan orientasi butir bom gunungapi dan ditemukannya bongkah sangat kasar andesit dan batuan ubahan serta aliran lava maka diperkirakan sumber erupsi terletak di sebelah timur-timurlaut, tidak jauh dari daerah penelitian. Kegiatan volkanisme Tersier ini kemudian berhenti sama sekali dan diikuti dengan sedimentasi breksi epiklastika sebagai satuan batuan kedua yang terdiri dari konglomerat, breksi konglomeratan dan batupasir, berumur Miosen (N5-N18) dan diendapkan di lingkungan laut dangkal. Satuan batuan ketiga terdiri dari tuf, batulapili dan breksi batuapung. Komposisi ini mencerminkan hasil letusan kaldera gunungapi yang merupakanperiodapenghancuran suatu kerucut gunungapi komposit.

Three volcanic rock units are exposed at Candisari River, Wukirharjo village, Prambanan Yoyakarta,
i.e. (1) Alternating lavas and pyroclastic breccias, (2) Epiclastic breccias and (3) pumice-rich tephras.
The first rock unit has andesitic in composition and the pyroclastic breccias contain a lot of volcanic
bombs in which the largest bombs have an average diameter 78 cm directing to N3CE. The coarsest
andesitic blocks range from 2.5 m to 80 m, while hydrothermally altered blocks have 1.3 - 1.6 m. The
alternation oflavaflows andpyroclastic breccias is considered as apart ofproximalfacies ofa composite
volcanic cone. Based on the orientation of volcanic bombs and thepresent ofvery coarse andesitic blocks, altered blocks and lava flows it is suggested that the eruption source was located in the northeast side, nearby the research area. This Tertiary volcanic activity ceased and was followed by sedimentation of epiclastic breccias as the second rock unit. This unit composes of conglomerates, conglomeratic breccias and sandstones that have Miocene (NS-NI 8) in age and were deposited in a shallow marine environment. The third rock unit comprises tuffs, lapillistones andpumice breccias. This composition implies a product ofan explosion caldera as a destructivephase ofa composite volcanic cone.
