These differ to the further workers (Soeria-Atmadja et al., 1994) who interpreted that there are two Tertiary magmatic arcs in Java, i.e. Late Eocene to Early Miocene and Late Miocene to Pliocene magmatic belts in Java. The first magmatic belt is related to Paleogene subduction located along the southern part of Java, whereas the other one located north of it, is related to Neogene subduction. The Quaternary volcanic cones in general are distributed within the Neogene magmatic belt. Reevaluation to the geologeological data and some new radiometric ones has given a new perspective to Java Cenozoic volcanic arcs. These data suggest that volcanic arcs of Paleogene, Neogene and Quaternary were superimposed, and among of them intra-arc basins have developed. This new idea may have implications to the exploration strategy of energy and mineral in the area.
